For dedicated lovers of German Shepherds the modern world presents a broad network of clubs and rescue organizations. The Verein fur Deutsche Shafenhunde, the first breeder club, appeared in 1899 in Germany. It was founded by Max von Stephanitz, the progenitor of the breed, and soon after became the world's largest German Shepherd Dog breeder club.
Now there are a vast number of breeder and rescue clubs throughout Europe, America and other parts of the planet. Their goals are saving, treating and raising harassed and stray German Shepherd Dogs. They also look for those who can be suitable masters or breeders. Rescue clubs are actually education centers for future breeders and owners. They work according to well developed and elaborate standards.
They provide comprehensive information on proper raising, care, likely health problems, and
impending dog show registration and scheduling.
Adopting a German Shepherd Dog is in no way an easy procedure. If you intend to adopt a puppy from a rescue club, you are going to have to deal a lot with the club's specialists. Their job is to learn about you, such as what breed or variety you
seek to acquire, and if this particular breed will be suitable for you.
You will need to submit an adoption application, containing your particulars. If you lack experience in dog keeping, you may be required to attend several dog keeping and training classes. It is
imperative that specialists visit your home to make sure that you have the proper conditions for raising a German Shepherd
Dog.
Establishing contact with someone knowledgeable regarding the breed is
another important element. You can get information on some distinctive
appearance and behavioral features, another service provided by the specialists
of the club. It is also notable that the keeping of German Shepherds requires
certain expenses, which include feeding, training, grooming, donations and
health care, which emphasizes the importance of knowing before you buy."
