German Shepherd Photo

These dogs are characterized by intelligence, power, and dignity. They are well-muscled, but with smooth outlines. The height of the males varies from 24 to 26 inches at the withers; females stand between 22 and 24 inches. These dogs have a deep and capacious chest, long and well-sprung ribs; strong and muscular neck that allows a typical head carriage. The forequarters of these dogs are a little longer than hindquarters, so the back is sloping. The feet are short and compact. The tail is set low and hangs freely in a slight curve.

This is the only breed that can be taught a lot of different tasks easily as it is very intelligent and easily trainable. Training should begin in the earliest age as untrained dogs have a tendency to be difficult to handle and control. The dogs were originally trained as herders; the dogs are still used in some areas as herders. These dogs do not require any special care; all you need to do is to groom the dog every day as the coat is double and of medium length.
